KELLY NEL
WHAT STYLE OF YOGA DO YOU TEACH?
I teach Vinyasa Yoga. Vinyasa is a style of yoga that connects each movement to a breath to create a very rhythmic sequence of continuous movement.
WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT FROM YOUR CLASSES?
My classes are just like my practice. They are strong, grounded, playful and self inquisitive.
I teach what I love and what I love is to find new ways of connecting one asana (pose to another), challenging my body in new and exciting ways that force me to stay focused on my breath in order to keep it flowing. My breath is my biggest guide in my practice and so it’s what I emphasize most on when I am teaching. Breathing is life. It provides energy and the energy helps us to play. When we play in class I am right there by your side. Playing to see what arrives for you, in your mind, so that we can take a deeper look into who we are, how we react and whether or not what we see is what we like. If it is we move together to continue to grow and it isn’t then we move to shift. Sifting through our stuff. Physically, mentally and emotionally so that we can find balance. Find that grounded feeling that we can then carry off of our mat into our lives. Always connected. Always yoga.
HOW DID YOUR YOGA JOURNEY BEGIN?
I started practicing when I was 14. My first class what at Living Yoga, and now it’s where I teach!!! I was in a very unstable and unhealthy place in my life, physically and mentally, and this practice provided a safe place for me to recover and to grow, shifting to release what no longer served me and breathing to grow what I thought would.
I am incredibly grateful for this practice. It truly is my life and I love it, as well as the people it has brought into my life, with every fibre of my being.
